Final Reflection
Going into my senior year I feel like I was very prepared. I had everything in mind and was ready. I started my capstone semester 1 even though I had capstone class semester 2 I still started it. When it was time to start capstone I already had everything done, all of my journals, even my hours. I feel like starting capstone that early was really good for me. It gave me time to do other things that I needed to get done. I learned that a lot of students develop differently and process time differently. Some kids may not understand math right away and you have to give them the time to understand and learn. During my capstone I was able to make bonds with the students and made sure that I was there to help them when they needed the help. I had a really good time helping all of the students. I learned a lot more about myself. I feel like I was a very shy person and didn't really like to talk to people or have conversations with other people. But this made me more social. I am now able to talk to the students and feel comfortable with what I'm saying. I learned that I am a very outgoing student and I always get what I need done in time. I'm a very hard worker and no matter what situation I'm in, even if it's too hard I still find a way to get it done or a solution. I always learned more about my classmates. I learned that they are all amazing people and have a heart deep down inside to help others and do what they love and every one showed that. I enjoyed learning more about my classmates and what they were doing for their capstone as well. Me and some of my classmates were never that close but we got to work together in groups and did some team activities that made me see who they really are and it made all of us have some kind of bond. We all were able to be ourselves around each other. I feel like the next upcoming seniors should all make sure that they are doing everything on time and not think that they have more than enough time because the year will go by really fast and it can become very overwhelming. My teacher, Mrs.Bout, has been there for all of us to make sure that we were on task and knew what we were doing and what we were having problems with and made sure that all of us built a bond as a class and as seniors. My AHA moment was seeing the difference in the students from the beginning of the year when I first entered the classroom to now, I really saw a change in behavior and academics. They made me see that they are now confident in themselves to speak out loud and answer questions that the teacher asks. They really are trying their best to get what they need done.
I learned a lot more about working with kids. You really need to have patience when working with students because a lot of the kids work on different schedules. Some students don't like to work in the classroom. They love to say that they will do it at home and take it as homework. My job was to make sure they fully understood what they were doing so when they did go home they knew what they were doing and I usually would just make them get it done now then later. I feel like my capstone went very well. I enjoyed everything about it. I hope our upcoming seniors add on to this and try to do the same thing because they will really enjoy creating new bonds and being a leader for the lower classmen. If I was to do something differently I would have spent more time with the students, instead of going 2 times a week I would have gone 3 times a week, I could have also created more bonds with some of the other students. I love helping others, especially the younger students, that's the real reason why I want to be a nurse. I want to make a change and be a leader other people can join and say they want to do the same thing. So it felt really good being able to help the students and being there for them when they need you. I would definitely do this again and even come in when I'm out of school and help students and make them feel special.
